POSTER!

As shown in previous blogs we completed our teaser poster. Well here is our  main poster for our film which would come out after the teaser one.

We have added in the reviews from movie magazines and critics to show what others thought of the movie and to advertise it well. We have also added a viral website to the bottom of the poster the sames as our teaser poster as marketing for the movie. It is a website where fans can post what they think is out there and upload images and videos etc.
I think the poster has a clear theme with our movie trailer because we have used an image that promotes a scary film and have used similar colouring with a black and white image and have used the same font for the title and other text. This shows how they have a running theme.

Completed Magazine cover

Here is our completed magazine cover our last task. We feel that it is in a typical EMPIRE style magazine fitting in with the conventions of film magazines and promoting our film. We completed the magazine in InDesign but edited pictures in Photoshop which i explained in the previous blog.

žThe font we mainly used was the same font we used for the title of our film making it memorisable and recognizable. We also, stuck to using 3 main colours red, black and white which are typical horror colours and it is also one of the conventions of a magazine as they only use 3 or 4 main house colours. We added a website address under EMPIRE to promote the magazine and also, more info and behind the scenes footage could be on this website  therefore promoting our film even more.

Photos for our magazine

We shot our photos as we planned on a white background in college. We all had a filming props to hold during our photo shoot, Tanya held a clapper board Kate held a tripod and i held a light. We set the camera up  on a tripod stand and put it on self timer. We took several pictures from different angles. After looking at all the pictures we decided  on the first one we took which is the camera looking up at us and were looking down on it making us look more important we then went onto Photoshop and changed the curves of the photo which affected the lighting of the picture (image, adjustment, curves) and made it more white and bright giving it a eery feel and making us stand out more in the picture it also, made the light on the wall less visible making it look more like a professional magazine. We then saved this edited photo and put it into InDesign were our layout for our magazine is. After adjusting colours of fonts and removing colour background from the EMPIRE title and the number 30 which we done on Photoshop by erasing the colour and in InDesign by using the clipping path we had our final magazine cover.

Here are the pictures we took during or photo shoot for our magazine cover.

After trying all these photos in InDesign with our planned our front cover we decided that the last photo shown above worked the best. However all the photos we took looked good and suited what we wanted for our magazine but we needed to take into acount how the masthead and coverlines worked with the picture therefore we decided on the last one as it does not cover the image to much as we want the picture to interact with the reader as much as possiable and by covering the face would reduce this.

Starting our magazine

Today we started to design our magazine cover. We made a basic layout for our empire magazine only needing to take a photo to add to our magazine cover. We decided to take the picture on a white background allowing us to then change the colour of it in InDesign. Me Kate and Tanya decided to hold a piece of filming equipment during the photo shoot making us look like we were the stars of the film and since the film is like a home video this seemed appropriate to do.

Feed back from the class

After looking back at our feed back we decided to put the results into pie graphs to see how many people liked our trailer? what stood out ect. This will help us in our evaluation. From our graphs we can see that everyone we gave the questionnaire to liked our trailer but we maybe need to make the plot more easy to understand how ever we didn't want to give away the plot to much as it is a teaser trailer and would ruin what the film is about.

class feed back

Today we showed our trailer to the whole class on the projector and gave them a questionnaire  to fill out.
The questions we asked were
1. From watching this trailer can you see what genre it is?
2. Did you like it?
3.What would you change about it
4. Would you see it at the cinema
5. What did you remember from the trailer? what stood out?
6. Did you understand the plot?

Poster

Here is the first draft of our poster the image just needs to be added which we are going to upload next week and put on the poster but the basic layout is done with the fonts and colours. Once the photo is uploaded onto the poster we may need to re arrange the layout colours or add another image or text.

Plan for poster

This is a first plan of our poster which needs to be completed by adding a image, changing font and size.

The font we will use for the title will be the same as we used for our trailer (action of the new time)

Magazine cover research

Now that our trailer is finished and  uploaded onto YouTube blogger twitter and soon Facebook we have decided to start making our magazine cover. In order to make our film magazine conventional i am going to look at existing film magazines such as empire.

Empire magazine is a well know film  magazine perfect for advertising our film. Therefore we will use the heading for 'EMPIRE' magazine for our own magazine we will be creating our own version of EMPIRE adverting our film as it is doing here for the dark night and showing  a picture of the joker.

The colour's used on the magazine help add to the feeling of the presence of the joker. The florescence green and bright pink/purple  colour is associated with the joker if you have seen the film. But it also, then allows readers who have not seen the film get a feeling about the presence of the joker, almost a fearful clown vibe about him. This is also, linked with the font used to spell the 'JOKER' which looks like it has been cut together from different news paper or magazine headings. This look is sometime associated or seen in films when a ransom note is sent so that the person does not recognize or can identify the person who is sending it. This adds to the feeling that the joker is not a nice character. When designing our magazine we could incorporate this by using dark greens black and browns as these colours are associated  with dark creepy forests. As well the heading reads 'meet the joker one-on-one with BATMAN'S new nemesis!' We could also, use this interview form in our magazine for example ' meet the new queens scream the hot new cast of the unknown' something along those lines.

monday 17th editing our trailer

We played our trailer back to our lecture and suggested that we should add a transition between the first bit of text and and between the clip of 3 of the characters walking and the second part of the text. He also, showed us how to use our font we decided on for our title of our film which we would also use in our poster for our film. We chose our font we wanted to use for our film title 'the unknown' previously from dafont.com. We then downloaded this font to allow us to use it in our trailer :). By using the font in both the trailer and the poster it will make coherent as well by having the same font it gives the film a recognizable style that when you look at you know that it is advertising the unknown. We also, made the fonts the same on each text. Added footstep sound over the padlock clip. Took the sound out of the part which says the name of the film. Made the sound of the owl more quieter to make it feel more realistic.

Next step is to hopefully upload our trailer onto youtube to get feed back and onto our facebooks and twitter accounts. Once that is uploaded we need to start our poster for our film. We have already came up with a few ideas these are...

  • half of face looking scared
  • picture of looking up to the trees
  • 3 friends together hiding behind trees looking frightened
  • picture of 3 friends running of
The idea we like the most is of the shot of the half face looking scared with maybe the forest trees in the background.

Final stages of our trailer

Today we have decided to complete our trailer for our film by adding music and generally tweaking what we have done making it as perfect as we can get it.

We are looking at music from various music websites that have free download able copyright music from websites that the exam board suggested. www.freesounds.org was one of the websites we looked at and downloaded a scream sound and 'horror' which is some creepy eerie music.

We have added a new owl scream to replace the previous one we used as it sound more realistic(20684_johnc_owl). We have also added a scream to the shot were you see us running away(42847_freqman_psycho_scream) , to the scream we have already added we are trying to find another one as there are 3 people running away screaming. We have added the 'horror'(ambienteffect 2 which is from the imovie sonds)  added the pan of the location (forest). The end criedits sound(breath of death).

Our next step is to find foot steps for the part walking up to the pad lock and another sound for when the camera is pushed away by the person after the padlock shot.

editing footage

Last Monday and this Monday we have been editing our footage. Today we added  the green film rating trailer screen that looks like this

By having this at the beginning of the trailer it makes it look more official and professional.
We also, added lionsgate logo to our trailer as they are a well known production company for making horror films making it perfect for our trailer.

We also, added an 'ambient' sound to some parts of our trailer, and also, when there is the pan of the location we put a owl sound in the background to give it more of a forest  eerie feel. We plan to add more sound to our trailer once we have found them.

The feed back from our lecturer on our trailer so far was to speed up the part we slowed down as seemed too slow. He also, said we needed to have more transitions as parts go from bright to dark and does not flow very well.

Next step:
We have now got a first cut of our trailer so we are now going to move on to making our poster for our film, to give us inspiration we will look at posters for horror films. Once this is done we will go back to tweaking our trailer.

Filming 2nd session wednesday 24th december

On wednesday the 24th december we completed our filming for our trailer, however due to the times we could all do this filming we had to do it during the day and not i fox's forest  which is our original location. But we filmed it at a location similar looking to our original location(trees, thick forest, leaf, bushes). As we filmed this during the day we will have to edit the footage in imovie to black and white to make it fit into our  previous footage and so it fits with the conventions of a horror.

Our next step is to look at our footage and edit what we have and see if we have enough footage to start to put together our trailer.
